Folio Open Art Competition & Exhibition 2011

By Jehanzeb Anwer

Understanding the devotion and passion for arts in FCC, Folio (English) organized an open art competition and exhibition on 20th and 21st of April, 2011 at Science block (S-008).  Ever glowing minds of Folio members thought of confessing their utter love for art through a wonderful event.  The task came up as a challenge to the team however the commendable handwork of Asma, Sana Saba and Salma (Event managers & Reps)  paid off completely when over hundred participants committed to take part into the competition and exhibition in which brilliant theme designing of Arman Ahmed (Art Editor) played an enormous role. In all three categories of Competition, Exhibition and Photography students showed great amount of interest.

All the members did an awesome job in promoting the event all over the campus. On 20th April event started with a boom and it seemed that rainbow of thousand different colors started spreading on the horizons. The event theme was quite informal and students had all the time in world to use their imagination and bring the best out of themselves. Music and cheerful whistling continued throughout the event which made the artists more comfortable working on their art pieces. At the end of day, Folio team was left with whole lot of creative masterpieces. Next day (21s April) all the art pieces were put on exhibition. Formanites and faculty members from all the departments, especially honorable Vice Rector, Dr. C.J, Dubash, Dean of Humanities, Dr. Wasem Anwer and Prof. Ayesh Ateeq (Psychology Department) praised the efforts and artistic skills of the students.

Next important and difficult task was to judge the art pieces and select the top three in all three categories and for that we relied on the opinions of the artists, Folio members and voting of students. After all the pondering and decision makings results were finalized and declared on 9th May in a memorable prize distribution ceremony. Chief Advisory Board, Dr. Kamal Ud Din and Advisor Folio English, Assist. Prof. Waqar Azeem handed over the prizes to the participants. In photography Maryam Azhar stood first while Haseeb Muhammad and Basit Zafar secured second and third positions respectively. In the competition category Sonam Emmanual achieved the first spot, whereas Waqas Nasir Butt and Umer Mateen Khan got second and third position respectively. In the final category of Exhibition, Ubaid Ur Rehman seized the first place; Juvaria Tariq came on second while Muhammad Muqaddas settled on third position.

FOLIO at FCC Open House 2011

FOLIO team set up a stall at FCC Open House 2011on January, 2011 and introduced the magazine to the prospecting students and their parents. Dr. Peter H. Armacost also visited the FOLIO stall and shared his old memories with the FOLIO team.

FCC Open House 2011is a great event to attract the students and spread the awareness among parents regarding different educational programs of FCC. But unfortunately, despite of all the organization and preparation the number of students and parents who turned out for the event was considerably low. We feel that a little more effort towards marketing in different schools and colleges would be helpful to bring students and parents for the next Open House.
